link roundup for 9/23

stealing this idea from dante, i've been enjoying his link roundups. some of these are things i learned about from him! everyone say thank you dante.

a little light because i'm still not in the habit of saving things for these. learning and growing.

cohost tributes

there's been a lot of tributes to cohost that have really gotten me. the outpouring of love we've seen, even tinged with sadness, has helped make the most stressful years of my life worth it.

curiousquail: What We Leave Behind (Eggbug Forever) // Compost 06

a song written by curiousquail for the final Compost (cohost compo). chock full of site memes and in-jokes. there's a few references in here that i actually didn't remember; it's a useful reminder that i really had no idea what was going on in large chunks of the site. ignore the bit about me being short, i'm a completely normal height.

a diary of yearnings: I was reminiscing and

genuinely wasn't sure how to title this (afaik there is no official title) so i went with the classic move of "use the first line".

one of many CSS-driven tributes. you can't make shit like this anywhere else.

blackle: thanks for all the fish<3

one last blackle masterpiece for the road.

ash @astral: cohost web component

not technically a tribute but still extremely cool. if you're looking to rehost your posts in an accurate way, this is a great place to start.

other things

ytch

"what if youtube channels were actually channels" - this has been great background noise while working. big fan.

damien erambert: hacking together a local CSS editing workflow on bear

great post from damien about getting a functional CSS editing environment for bear. has been useful for me as i work out minor things with my own theme.

videodante: you should read umineko

he's right

Kore Signet: Hacking a Hitachi Magic Wand (Plus)

initial heads up: while this post is not 18+, it does talk about modifying a sex toy, so use discretion.

this is coincidentally extremely similar to a project i've been quietly doing off-and-on for a few months now, but with somewhat different goals (i want to maintain regular operation, including the buttons) and a different approach (largely to make the buttons keep working). the magic wand plus is extremely easy to hack on though. recommend it if you're looking for a silly hardware project.

nat clayton: Photo Mode

it's been fun to read about other peoples' reintroduction to photography as i go on the same journey.

nat touches on something here that i will genuinely miss about cohost: we had a really neat photography scene there that was based almost entirely on just sharing art for the sake of it, helped by the fact that we weren't compressing the hell out of whatever you uploaded. i hope to see a similar community pop up someday.

that's it! gonna try to make this a regular thing. thanks for reading.
